When ice forms on major waterways in the wintertime or in year-round cold climates, it can seize up marine traffic, not allowing boats to pass through, and often even trapping them in ice. In order to free these boats, an icebreaker boat is used to help break up the ice surrounding the boat to allow them to move freely through the water.

Firefighters from Monroe Township in Clermont County in Southwest Ohio rescued a horse that had fallen into an iced-over pool.

Two climbers were rescued on Saturday in Rocky Mountain National Park after becoming incapacitated from severe winter conditions. Colorado park rangers were contacted late Friday night by the 47- and 50-year-old climbers, who were trying to climb Keiner?s Route on Longs Peak.
